It is time to switch our attention to badminton now that the first day of India’s wrestling competition at the Commonwealth Games 2022 was such a resounding success.

Aakarshi Kashyap defeated Cyprus’ Eva Kattirtzi 21-2, 21-7 to advance to the quarterfinals of the women’s singles competition, and Lakshya Sen advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s singles competition by defeating Ying Xiang Lin of Australia 21-9, 21-16 to advance to the quarterfinals of the men’s singles competition.

In the men’s doubles competition, the legendary duo of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chriag Shetty prevailed against the Pakistani duo of Murad Ali and Muhammad Irfan Saeed Bhatti by scores of 21-7 and 21-8.

In the battle for the bronze medal in the men’s 125-kilogram freestyle division, Mohit Grewal prevailed against Aaron Johnson of Jamaica with a VFA (Victory by Fall) victory.

After Mohit’s victory, all six Indian wrestlers who competed on Friday were able to earn gold in their respective weight classes. Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia and Sakshi Malik earned gold, Anshu Malik claimed the silver medal, while Divya Kakran and Mohit secured bronze medals.

Over the course of the past three hours, India’s total medal haul at the Birmingham Games has increased from 20 to 26 as a direct result of the outstanding performance of the country’s wrestlers.

Mohit Grewal, one of the six Indian wrestlers who competed on Friday, will be going up against Aaron Johnson of Jamaica in the match for the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 105 kilogramme category. Grewal will be looking to make it five out of six Indian wrestlers who competed on Friday to win medals.

Wrestling has brought India yet another medal, and this time it’s the bronze medal. Divya Kakran won the bronze medal in the women’s 68 kilogramme freestyle category as she won the match against Tonga’s Tiger Lily Cocker Lemalie in only 26 seconds by VFA (Victory by Fall).

At the Commonwealth Games 2022, Divya wins a medal, making her India’s 25th overall medalist and the fifth overall medalist among wrestlers.
